MAY 2012
8th May @ 7.30pm, Claremont RSL - The Winning Band - As many of our members know the jazz club is part of two awards given annually as encouragement awards to our younger up and
coming musicians. The Jack Duffy award is in conjunction with the Musicians Union of
Tasmania and has been going for 10 years now. It is for musicians 35 and under who not only have a talent for their craft but are enthusiastic and give something back to the industry.
The Jack Kirwin Bursary is from the Claremont RSL and is a monetary award for students of the Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music who have worked hard and show promise. Undergraduate students only are eligible. Tonight we showcase some of those winners from the past 10 years.
Drums - Matthew Ives and Liam O’Leary

Tonight  Tonight Really don't miss out.   Fantastic opportunity

Book Now   6267 2880 or just come.         6 piece gypsy style band    $25   or $20 concession

Nadya and the 101 candle orchestra - A little bit about the band.

Take the time to look at the utube links.

I'm Kathy, I'm managing a wonderful Sydney gypsy band which launched at the Opera House ten years ago and its musicians have been playing together ever since, in  Australia and Europe....We're coming to Tasmania in May, doing a few performances   in and around Hobart, and would be really grateful if you could help spread the word...in the gig guide, and it would be really great to get a few lines in your Pulse...We're at The Brookfield Margate on 11th May Fri..The nice thing is, Nadya the lead singer (my daughter) was born in Hobart and our line, despite the Eastern European surname comes from Tasmania, a dinky di old musical family. I've attached a few bits and pieces,  plus a couple of you tube clips for you to get the idea of this super lively and amazingly soulful musical gang and give us a bit of coverage...Cheers, Kathy..

Roz Pearson sent out word about a lounge bar and restaurant called 'Gilt' situated on Sandy Bay Road (next to The Metz), where you can go for breakfast, lunch, dinner or anytime in between for a drink or a snack - a home away from home -  serves delicious food and drinks - set in beautiful gardens - take the whole family to listen to live music four nights and two afternoons a week.
Thursday night 6-9pm and Saturday afternoon 1-4pm you can sit and listen or have a chat with piano man and raconteur Steve Young as he plays and sings the blues and jazz standards.
Friday nights 6-9pm Steve Mannering and yours truly perform some hot saucy jazz.
Saturday night 6-9pm have a listen to Bridget Pross singing and playing her own compositions - Tassie's answer to Missy Higgins.
Sunday afternoon escape to the exotic cafes of Europe with some Gypsy Jazz. It's a credit to Scott Bywater that he is so committed to supporting our local musicians.
